Schematic GS1299 circuit FM stereo radio tuner
Introduction
A radio is an electronic device that can receive, decode, and convert radio signals into audio signals. An FM radio is a radio that receives FM (frequency modulation) radio signals. The circuit uses the GS1299 chip as the core, with a power module consisting of a battery size and a voltage regulator chip. The 3.5 mm headphone jack serves as both the signal reception end and the output end for audio signals. A surface-mount crystal oscillator provides the clock signal, and control signals are input via 5 touch buttons.
The GS1299 chip is a special stereo receiver chip produced by a Chinese company, which does not require users to write programs.
Two AA batteries are connected to battery holder BT1 to provide a 3V input voltage (VCC_BAT). This voltage is controlled by toggle switch SW6 and is regulated by the PL3500 voltage regulator chip to generate the supply voltage for the chip circuit (VCC). Resistor R2 and diode D1 form an indication circuit to check if the power supply is normal.
Buttons SW1~SW5 are connected to different function pins of the GS1299 chip, serving as power on/off, volume up, volume down, next channel, and previous channel control terminals. SW1 is stabilized by resistor R1 and capacitor C1 to avoid interference. The project uses silicone rebound buttons for better touch sensitivity, where pressing the button connects the circuit, and releasing it automatically returns to the unpressed state.
The supply voltage (VCC) is filtered through capacitors C4 and C5 before being sent to pins 6 and 10 of the GS1299 chip to provide power supply voltage. Crystal oscillator Y1 (32.768kHz) and the chip’s phase-locked loop circuit work together to generate the required clock signal for the chip to operate.
The GS1299 chip uses the headphone wire as an antenna, and when the headphone wire is connected to the 3.5 mm headphone jack (J1), the FM signal is filtered through L3 and C6 before being input to pin 4 of the chip. The GS1299 chip will automatically decode, A/D convert, amplify the FM signal, and then output the stereo left and right channel signals through C2, C3, L1, and L2 after eliminating RF interference, to the headphone jack.
J2, J3, J4 are three screw holes connected to the “ground” network.
About IC GS1299
The GS1299 is a single-chip broadcast FM stereo radio tuner with fully integrated synthesizer, IF selectivity and MPX decoder. The tuner uses the CMOS process, require the least external component. The package size is SOP16 and is completely adjustment-free. All these make it very suitable for portable devices. The GS1299 has a powerful low-IF digital audio processor, this make it have optimum sound quality with varying reception conditions. The GS1299 can be tuned to the worldwide frequency band.
